Marshall Terry's Vintage Amp Repair & ServicesNot only am I doing guitar setup services (at the same old, oh so low price of $20!), but I'm also extending my realm into amp repair and maintanance. I've fixed up and sold several vintage Fender amps now, and have enough experience under my belt to do almost anything to amplifiers. For those that are inclined to have something tweaked, replaced, modded, repaired, anything, here's a breakdown of everything:
Labor + Materials Price ListAs a preface, of course, each amp's case is unique, but this is a general outline of how much parts, labor, and specific services cost. If you're having more than a couple of these services performed, then a little can be shaved off the top.
General Amp "Diagnosis": $5-10- This includes a full audio test, analysis of capacitors, both power and tone, and a full trace of the circuit to look for anomalies or anything that appears to be working incorrectly. This "diagnosis" fee is free if you end up needing and wanting repairs for your amp.
Amp Circuit Repair and/or Fender "Blackfacing": $30 + Parts- If your circuit is "fried", or want a change or a special mod or two, either research it or bring it in to me, or I can give you a big list of options to choose from, as well as descriptions of how it will affect your tone and sound of your amp's performance. A list of the number of parts used to fix your amp will be provided.
Also, if it's not a major circuit repair, the price will be adjusted lower, depending on the case.
Parts Cost Breakdown:- $.60/Resistor (Vintage Carbon Composite resistors used when available)
- $1.50/Tone Capacitor (High Quality Mallory or Orange Drop caps used depending on preference)
- $2.50/Diode Capacitor (Sprague Atom Caps used – the best available)
- $35/Power Supply Capacitor Set (Sprague Atom Caps, price may vary depending on amp)
Tubes:There are myriads of different tubes out there for each type of sound, and various style amps. For most Fender amps, each preamp tube is about ~$10 and each power amp tube is about $~15 for some of the best quality tubes out there. If you're more budget conscious, or have a particular tube you wish for me to order, the price may lower or raise, all depending on brand and type.
Biasing and Tube Replacement: $15 + Tube Costs- The power tubes will be properly biases according to the schematic of the amp and the plate voltage of the tubes used. Preamp tubes do not need to be biased. You can supply the power tubes, or I can order them independently for you. If you're wondering what is the best tube to replace your amp with, just ask me, and I'd have several good recommendations according to how you want your amp to sound.
Anything not listed here can be done, anything from replacing a blown transformer to salvaging a severely damaged amp. Speaker replacement, reverb tanks, almost anything – just email me at
